Hello everyone,
I've been having problems with flash back during my HHO
experiments.
This is because I have made a torch, and have been attempting to get it lit steady and consistant.
I believe my problem is low production and low pressure, I'm working on it.
I'm trying to use cigarett buts as a flash arrestor for now and two bubblers as a safety precaution.
so far so good, I have only ever "popped" the stopper on the first bubbler if the fire gets past the ciggy but.
Before any one jumps down my throat, "I am very careful"!
I always wear safety glasses and insist any one watching me wears them also.
In addition to that, I cover my cells with wood in case the flashback gets to my cells..."kind of a shrapnel gaurd".
The last time I had a flashback, it destroyed my first bubbler because my stopper was too small "dime size" and it could not handle the pressure.
I am currently designing a new bubbler with a much larger pressure relief hole in it.
I found a web site for rubber stoppers, and wanted to share it with anyone having the same problem.
http://www.widgetco.com/13-rubber-stoppers-plugs?sc=7&category=2313
Also here is a web site for fine bronze wool.
A lot of experimenters are having good results using bronze wool
in thier flash back arrestors.
http://www.lustersheen-online.com/xcart/home.php?cat=272
I have been using a kind of cork for my pressure relief hole, but it seems to leak air a little.
An air tight seal is crucial in HHO set ups.
I used a string tied to the stopper and bubbler because I got tired of looking for my stopper after a flash back!
It works real good.
If any one has any suggestions like household items I could use for a stopper, please let me know.
Normally I dont like buying items off the internet because of shipping costs, but with todays high gas prices it costs the same.
Thanks for reading my post, and remember BE SAFE with your experiments!
Eddie

Sorry this will be quick again time and all that. Will be working on my bubbler next but what do you think of my auto top up cell and it works I know I have built a test one. Now the idea of this is if i keep the water topped up, the cell will not explode, I know this just spent 3 days trying to blow it up.

Hi Eddie, You and I have the same fears about HHO and my family is scared to death. SOOOOO I'm looking into flame arrestors and blowoff saftey devices, like you, before I go one step further with this project. Wet bronze wool seems to be the way to go for the flame arrestor. I know you can buy it in boat maintenance supply stores. I like the torch that the guy "Rain4fuel" on Youtube made. Daftman please let us know more about how you are going to put HHO SAFELY into a car. Thanks

Hi Lidmotor,
As a matter of fact "Jeff" the guy from rain for fuel.net is the one who gave me the link for the fine bronze wool.
I have made the identical torch that he has, and he has given me advice on my project.
It seems that my problem is low production and low pressure.
He recommends at least 10 plates in each cell and enough baking soda to pull 30 amps.
I have 4 plates in one cell and 5 in the other pulling 7.5 amps.
I need to do some modifications before I attempt to light my torch again.
Dont be afraid!....this is not a hydrogen bomb.
do some experiments, and see how much gas creates how big a boom.
start very small by lighting bubbles then try lighting apx 1 ounce of gas then two....the bigger the volume of gas the louder the explosion.
The trick is to know ahead of time how big of a boom will happen if the flashback gets to your cell.
leave apx 1 inch of air space at the top of your cell to avoid a huge boom, and cover your cells before attempting to light a torch.
AN OUNCE OF PREVENTION IS WORTH A POUND OF CURE.
Remember we are making gas, and we need to be carefull.
Have a healthy respect for it, but do not fear it.
Jeff has had his share of flashbacks as well.
My propane barbaque has scared me more than my hho cells.
Educate yourself as much as you can, and procede with caution.
But by all means procede!
The pay off is too important.......cleaner air, better gas mileage, energy independance......the end to war over oil, more money in our pockets.
If we wait for our goverments to save us.......you get the point.
I've been experimenting with hho for about a month, and I haven't so much as burned my finger.
We are TEEP The Energy Experimenting People!
I hope we save the world.

Eddie
P.S.
Yes Yes, wet bronze wool and more plates.
Thats my next step.

Excellent!
But wont the hho creep up into the resiviour?
My other thought is will you have a problem with solution in your feed line to bubbler?

I’ve only built a test rig but HHO creep up into the resiviour is not likely as gas will always rise and take the quickest path out and has the water enters at the lowest point in the HHO pot, this should never happen.
But will let you know its still on test been running for 6 days non stop, and it’s got a electronic ignition inside the output tube that ignites the gas randomly anywhere from 1 min to 15 min. it still in one peace. Ps you have to be around when it ignites a 15 min one, it almost take’s the windows out.

LOL!!!!!
Way to go Daftman!
Ya gotta love the big booms.
I had a pretty loud flashback last week, too much hho in my bubbler.
A police car circled the block a few times!
I wont do that again.
I dont want to have to explain my hho project to the police, it looks like I have a meth lab in the garage...LOL
Cant wait to see the first video on your design.
Eddie
P.S.
How's your health Daftman?
I know you have been feeling under the weather lately.
Did I read right?...did you say you had a cracked rib?
