I just had to post. I know this isn't anything new, but I worked for a week trying to get this working. Now that it is I had to show it off. When I showed my wife she was like "its a motor?! So what." My kids loved it because it was spinning. So here it is
Here is a quick run down. I used a VCR drum head and 4 3/16 neos for the rotor. The coil is what i call a "frankenstein coil". I took a 5/8 steal bolt wrapped a layer of electrical tape around it, then wrapped 40 ish feet of 22 and 26 gauge wire around it. It took for ever. I used Daftmans circuit, but I had to subsitute parts out. I used 4004 diodes and 10k pot instead. I also cheated because I don't have any 12v batteries. Instead I took a 120vac to 12.6vdc transformer and a rectifier to get my 12vdc. The green light is a 120vac neon. Its only about 1/4 to 1/2 full brightness.
I dont think it is spinning very fast (compared to others) It spins faster that I can spin it with my hand.
Thats all for now.

Thx for the encouragement. BiDaDiKuNuKu, your videos and lidmotor's are they ones that peeked my intrest. I thank you for that.
I re-did the rotor. I drilled holes for the magnets to set into. It looks much better and is more stable. Also I had a 6v drill that I took the batteries out of. There 5 1.5v not sure of the amps though. My multi meter is broke and won't read the amps. I can get MUCH faster speeds with the 6v batteries than I can with the 12v I used before.
My next step is to rebuild the circuit with the right parts and clean it up abit. I plan to rewind my coil too. Also add a few pickup coils. Just waiting for my magnet wire to get here. I think like everyone else I'm going to migrate to the window motor setup.
Thx Micah

and thnx 4 your compliment on me Vids...sometimes i do make no sence in me Vids...sorry about that tho...:P
nice 1 there with the holes in your Rotor...that is better...:) u say u get much better speed now with the 6v than with the previous setup with the 12v... have u try it now with 12v on this new setup?...it should give u even better results...:)
always test it and than u clean it up afther...that way u dont have to re-do it like i had 2 in the beginning...:-/ the Window version does give u alot more advantages...atleast it did 4 me...:D if u have any question just ask m8...dont know if i will know the answer but i will sure do me best...;-)
Peace! V2DAY

I think my bridge rectifier in is bad for my 12v supply. I cannot get it to run my motor anymore. I have a few questions.
1. When I try to meause the amps, I cannot get the motor to run. I hook the positive from the battery to the positive on the meter. The negative of the meter to the positive hook up in the motor. I give it a spin and it slowly comes to a stop.
2. I added 4 more magnets for a total 8, and it will not run at all with 8 magnets. Im not sure why the only thing I can think of is that my rotor is to small. I think the magnetic field is to strong between them and it doesnt trigger properly. Does that sound right?
3. Is it true that I can only charge batteries of the same type? Could I use my 6volt setup to charge 4 1.5 volt AA's. If so, would the need to be in series or parallel?
Thats all the questions I have at the moment, but the more I experiment the more question Im sure to have.
Thx, Micah |

u dont need a BR on the Daftman setup??
1.it sound like u r hhoking it up the right way...making messurements isnt me strongest point... 2.r all your magnets facing north outward?...and it really should not matter how many u put on the rotor...i had from 4 2 10 on a small rotor aswell. 3.if ima not mistaken u can charge a 12v battery from a 6v setup...and i think the batteries need 2 b in series.
hope it helps u out abit...ima really nooo expert on this...but do check your connections...connections have gave alot of headache in the beginning...remove any coating and solder the ends be4 connecting them.
Peace! V2DAY

Im using the BR to turn the ac from my transformer to dc. Then I use the dc power instead of the primary battery.
I did sucessfully charge a 3v battery pack. |

Interesting result today (to me that is). I really like Lidmotors bedini setup with the pickup coil and the motor as the rotor. I have been slowly working to replicate that. Today I wound my pickup coil its 190 feet of 26 awg wire wrapped around a 1/2 steel rod. I have no idea how many windings I have. I lost count after half my coil came unwound. I hooked it up to a bridge rectifier to get dc power. Heres where the interesting part starts. I held the coil as close as I could get to the rotor and the meter read 1.9 to 2.5 vdc and it fluctuated alot. Then I moved the coil next to the bedini coil so they where touching. This time the meter read a pretty steady 3.5 vdc. Then I get an idea. I put the front of the pickup coil to the back of the bedini coil. This time the meter read steady 4 vdc. I was pretty shocked by that (not literally)
My guess is that the neo magnets and the magnetic feild from the run coil are combining and making a much bigger magnetic field. Or I could be wrong been known to happen. Im in the process of getting the flu, so if I survive that Im going to a video. |
