check this vid for a nice homemade turbine:

in one of his his vids he's attached a buzz saw... nice..
I was thinking of trying something like this but using hard discs or saw blades in place of the cds, as part of a steam driven generator using a foil covered old satellite dish as a solar collecter to heat a small boiler...

Now that coupling is very interesting thanks for that one sceptic33, may have some ideas for that one later.

Very cool. I have seen another person on youtube doing this with hard disk spindles.

TEEP, I'm going to recreate this Tesla turbine using vacuum from the down pipe at my spring. If I use six magnets per disk that are axially magnetized and alternate their polarity can I use one large coil rapped vertically all the way around the outside of the CD cover? I'm just learning about how to construct generators so any assistance would be welcomed,

Please post a diagram if possible, it may help me to understand more about your intended set up.

Using vacuum is a great idea! I'd imagine it would take quite a bit of suction to get going, what kind of readings do you get in "Hg?

Daftman's birdcage generator arrangement comes to mind with what you describe above.

TEEP and just an Electrician I tested the suction at the inlet of my down pipe and it is nowhere near the amount of suction needed for disk movement. I will do the conventional way using about 40 PSI of water pressure to supply mechanical energy. TEEP I want to use your birdcage generator configuration on the outside of the CD case housing. It measures out to be about 27cm per wind. If there are 50 winds per coil and 12 coils then there will be about 160 meters worth of wire for one generator. Being in rural costa rica without a digital camera has prohibited my ability to post photos. Can you imagine what I'm doing? I need to have a wiring schematic that describes how to get the birdcage's juice available for a load. Do you have one handy? If I do go with the birdcage configuration do I need magnets that axially or radially magnetized? If you can imagine the coils loop above the upper outer rim of the cd's so if they are axial magnets the north pole will travel underneath the upper part of the coil and the south pole will travel over the bottom part of the coil. Does the magnets flux line position matter in relation to the coil? Thank you,

TEEP, here are a few photos of my turbine. I'll reconfigure it with smaller magnets when they come in. The rubber bands indicate where the coils will be placed and I've used the spacing configuration of the birdcage generator in expanded format. Obviously I will use 12 coils even though there are only two rubber bands in this photo. The coils will pass over the top and bottom of the axially magnetized columns. Will this pose a problem? Thank you,

Topher

TEEP, I´ve tried to post photos but they are not. When I press the photo icon what should be the next step?

I will do a video on this it will explain things much better than words.
There is a video on posting video on the forum, you can just do the same procedure but for photos in stead of video. Anyway this is that link

http://teep.forumco.com/topic~TOPIC_ID~26.asp

it is all done the same but with photos instead of videos.
